About Upliftly
A folding table that grew into a neighbourhood
Upliftly Foundation began in 2014 with 40 loaves of bread and a folding table outside the Elm Street Hall.

Our story
Neighbours first, always
Amara Okafor started the bread table after noticing how many people walked past the Elm Street Hall each morning without breakfast. By spring there was a queue, a rota and a kettle.
Today Upliftly runs five programs with a small team and 600 volunteers. We still start every decision the same way: what do our neighbours say they need?

What we believe
Dignity first
Nobody should have to prove they are poor to be fed. Everyone is a guest at our tables.
Plain talk
We publish our numbers, answer questions in plain language and say what has not worked.
Neighbours decide
Each program starts with a request from the people it serves, and they help run it.
